Emerge Evangelism Conference Report

As followers of Jesus there are many moments in life that we look back upon which we acknowledge to be pivotal and significant in our faith journey, maturity and discipleship. One of those moments for me was the Emerge Evangelism Conference run by Crossover Australia. For me, it was an extremely beneficial time to network, gain further insight, and grow my own evangelistic strategy.

Dan attended the Emerge Conference in 2018, and reflects for us on his time there. Emerge Evangelism Conference is made possible by your support of Crossover through the annual Easter Offering. So, thank you again for your ongoing partnership!

I think the Bible is pretty clear that we are not meant to do life on our own, but rather in the context of Christian community. One of my favourite passages in this context is Hebrews 10: 24-25 which says:

24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

The conference provided substantial opportunity for the participants to network and get to know one another, whilst also providing the opportunity for us to ‘spur one another on toward love and good deeds’. I am still in contact with many from the conference and we have been able to continue to encourage one another to live the life that God has called each of us to live.

One of the key attributes of our faith that I believe the church fail to recognise and acknowledge is our spiritual gifts. Romans 12: 3-8 and 1 Corinthians 12: 1-31 are passages that speak of the specific and unique spiritual gifts that God has bestowed upon all believers by the power of His Holy Spirit. The conference served to provide further insight into the spiritual gifts that I believe God has provided me with, in particular the spiritual gift of evangelism, and how I ought to use it to build His Kingdom.

A key way in which the conference assisted me in being able to live out my spiritual gifts, in particular that of evangelism, was by providing further strategy in what it looks like to live a missional life. We were blessed to come under some great teaching including that of Mike Frost who is a key leader in the church missional movement. Mike spoke extensively on some of the key strategies and habits that one must adopt if they are to live missionally where ever God may be calling them to do so. The speakers provided us with some great strategies and techniques that I found extremely helpful and necessary to adopt into my own regular rhythms of life in order to win people for Jesus.

There is no doubt in my mind, that given the opportunity to attend the Emerge Evangelism Conference, you will gain a lot from it. It was for me, once again a moment in my life that I will look back upon as one that was significant in my own spiritual formation, in particular as I seek to play my part in building His eternal Kingdom.
