Emerging Evangelists Recap 2018

What do a Congolese singer based in QLD, a retired bank manager from TAS, a youth worker from Somalia, a young farming couple from regional VIC, a discount food retailer from WA, a Burundian TAFE student from QLD, an Indian multi cultural worker from TAS, a landscaper from SA and a Korean academic from NSW have in common with each other?

Answer: they all follow Jesus, love to tell others about the Gospel and were all invitees to the Crossover Emerging Evangelists Conference held at Thornleigh Community Baptist Church in April 2018.

Each of the participants were recognised by their church leaders as having a passion and gifting for evangelism. The reasons for being nominated were provided by each respective church leadership and participants were able to read these endorsements. This recognition of gifting is crucial in encouraging people in our churches who have gifts of any kind. The participants reflected the rich diversity of our Baptist movement. There was a spread of ages, ethnicity and gender and most served in lay ministry positions with their churches. Their evangelistic endeavours were similarly varied and they all minister in very different contexts. It showed that our movement of churches has a rich life filled with people who God has brought from all corners of the world.

Our guest speaker was Mike Frost, leading missiologist and founding director of the Tinsely Institute at Morling College. In addition to Mike Frost a range of topics were covered by our Taskforce members from each State Baptist Union covering everything from the art of storytelling to strategies for collaborating with church members and equipping others in evangelism.

A number of the talks were recorded, and we hope to make these available for others to listen to via our website in the coming weeks.

Steph reflected after that conference that, ‘I was grateful for the teaching sessions and also for the opportunities to process what we were learning in discussion with people from a variety of contexts. It helped me to clarify my understanding and to apply the material to my present situation as well as thinking how it could look in different applications as well.’

Crossover’s investment in helping empower emerging evangelists is made possible by funding from the annual Crossover Easter Offering. Please consider supporting more people to come and experience the encouragement and equipping that this years cohort were blessed with. You can donate via BFS here.

Emerging Evangelists Conference is an invitation only event. Delegates are chosen by their State Crossover Rep from nominations made by their church/Pastor. You can nominate someone to attend in 2019 by contacting your State Rep or completing this form.
